Gunn Park
Gunn Park is a highly developed model community park located 3 miles north of Grand Rapids along Highway 38, (Edge of the Wilderness National Scenic Byway 38). It is located on the shores of Prairie Lake in Arbo Township. Open daily in May to October from 8:00am to 9:00pm.
This park was developed and managed by the Blandin Paper Company in 1956. The Blandin Paper Company included several experimental plots of evergreen trees in the park. These plots of trees have been inventoried and evaluated as a part of the park planning process. Gunn Park encompasses 20 acres of red and while pine, spruce and aspen forest.
Facilitates located located in Gunn Park include a satellite toilet, a large parking area and a sand volleyball court.
Ball Fields
Four baseball and softball fields are located in the park. Grand Rapids Youth Baseball Association has ownership and management of these facilities. A cooperative agreement has been been worked out between the Park System and the Association, for use of one of the ball fields by the public.
Fishing Pier
A fishing pier is located on the shore of Prairie Lake, providing users a place for fishing and picnicking. ADA Fishing sites available on pier.
Picnic Area
The Park is equipped with several picnic tables providing a large day use area for families and individuals. A small set of playground equipment is also located near the picnic area and pavilion. Large pine trees, benches, and flowerbeds frame the scenic setting.
Playground Equipment
Upgraded playground equipment has been installed with the help of the Grand Rapids Public Works Department and a grant, in-kind work from Minnesota Power and Light (MP&L) employees. and grant funds from Blandin Foundation.
Pavilion
Gunn Park has a beautiful stone and wood pavilion that can be reserved for large group activities. It is an open-air facility with a built-in fireplace, electrical outlets, water, lights, and numerous picnic tables. Size is 60' by 90'.
Pavilion Reservations and Event Use
If you are interested in reserving the pavilion, it may be reserved between the hours of 8:00am to 9:00pm each day. It is open to the public unless reserved. Reservations can be booked in advance of your event within the calendar year and must be paid within 30 days of booking.
All reservations are on a first-come-first serve starting on the first working day after January 1st each year. If you would like to reserve the pavilion, please call 218-327-2855.
The charge for Pavilion Reservations is as follows:
- $75.00 to reserve from 8:00am to 2:00pm
- $75.00 to reserve from 3:00pm to 9:00pm
- $150.00 for all day -Your choice of time

- Alcoholic beverages allowed in pavilion only. No glass bottles! Kegs are prohibited.
- Please clean up the building after your use.
- Place all garbage and party decorations in the provided garbage cans.
- Remove all covers from the tables.
- Clean up any large food spills
- Pick up all garbage from the floor and nearby grounds
