Aitkin County Tax Forfeited Lands are Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) certified

fsc iMAGE

On September 1, 1997, over 222,000 acres of forestland, managed by the Aitkin County Land Department (ACLD) became the first county managed forest lands in the United States to be "green certified" under the strict standards of the FSC®. The Forest Stewardship Council® is the leading international monitoring organization for forest certification.

Since the original assessment in 1997, Aitkin County has had audits and reassessments conducted by Preferred by Nature™ accredited certifying body. The findings of the audits and assessments are Woods in Aitkin County complied in annual reports that are submitted by the auditors to Preferred by Nature™ for their approval. ACLD has continually met or exceeded the requirements during that time period.

Reports may be viewed at the FSC® website or by contacting ACLD.

ACLD Certificate Code: NC-FM/COC-000028

ACLD License Code: FSC-C017010

Aitkin County Certificate

FSC® certification is a reflection of ACLD's environmentally, economically, and socially responsible forest management practices and will enable us to use the FSC® logo when marketing forest products from these lands. There is a growing world consciousness that demands forest products be sustainably managed.  Since 1997, FSC® certification has allowed Aitkin County and the Great Lakes timber industry access to global markets and has helped maintain the vitality of our local forest economy.
