Meals on Wheels/Rural Deliveries

·         Meals on Wheels

Hot meals (lunch) provided to seniors five days a week within one mile of the city limits of Aitkin.

Requirements: Homebound seniors age 60 and over
Suggested donation of $4.50 per meal , no cost for medical waivered clients

·         Rural Delivery Services

Delivery to homebound seniors every other week within Aitkin County

Requirements:

  • Frozen meals and NAPS available for seniors 60 and older; other services available to homebound seniors and disabled adults
  • Suggested donation of $4.50 for frozen meals; no cost for medical waivered clients

Respite Services

CARE provides trained respite workers to stay with a loved one and provide a well-deserved break for caregivers. Workers are available days, evenings, week-ends or overnights.

Costs for services are determined on a sliding fee scale.

Support Group

Family, friends and caregivers meet for mutual emotional support, to gain knowledge about memory loss and to exchange coping skills with one another. Support groups meet in Aitkin or Via Zoom

·        Chores / Transportation

Providing referral and assistance for minor home maintenance, seasonal chores, and transportation. Through volunteer help seniors are able to stay in their homes longer and manage their daily activities. Have an option for people to send details of what they want: 2 options – chore   and transportation.

Through volunteer help, seniors are able to stay in their homes longer and manage their daily activities. We have two options for you to tell us about your needs.  All you have to do is fill out and submit your request below.  In order to simplify this process we have two services for you to use. Chore: light inside and outside duties.  Transportation: rides for everyday needs.

 

·        Homemaking Services

CARE provides homemaking services for seniors that need help with household tasks. Homemaking includes:

  • light housekeeping
  • laundry
  • meal preparation and clean-up
  • friendly visits
  • running errands

Costs for services are determined on a sliding fee scale

·        Nutrition Assistance Program for Seniors (NAPS)

Monthly distribution of free non-perishable food items in Aitkin, McGregor, McGrath, deliveries made to Aitkin Manor, Maryhill Manor, Village Apartments, Pioneer Villa and rural delivery

Requirements: Seniors 60 and older who meet income guidelines

Aitkin:

2nd Tuesday of each month
First Lutheran Church
8:30 am. – 10:30 am.
(Deliveries made to Aitkin Manor, Maryhill Manor and Village Apartments)

McGregor:

1st Tuesday of each month
McGregor Community Center
2:30 pm. – 3:30pm 
(Deliveries made to Pioneer Villa)

McGrath:

1st Tuesday of each month
1:30 pm. – 2:30 pm.

Falls Prevention – Learn More

Tai Ji Quan – Helps older adults improve their balance and reduce the likelihood of falling.

A Matter of Balance – Emphasizes practical strategies to reduce fear of falling and increase activity levels.

SAIL (Stay Active and Independent for Life) – A strength, balance and fitness program for adults.

·        Senior Companion Services

Volunteers age 60 + provide transportation and companionship to seniors on an ongoing basis.

Requirements:

  • Disabled adults and seniors age 60 and over
  • Client pays $.35 per mile for transportation; no cost for medical waiver clients

·        Foot CARE Clinic

Foot CARE Clinic

Seniors can now receive toenail care at Aitkin County Care, Inc . A licensed RN will be providing this service on a weekly basis at the CARE office located at the Birchstreet Offices in Aitkin. Services provided include feet soaked, trim nails, massage and check for any problems that need a medical referral. The session will last approximately 45 minutes.
