Sustainable Resources Center, Inc. (SRC) is a Minnesota 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that helps income-qualified residents live in safer, healthier, and more energy-efficient homes by providing major home energy improvements and lead abatement referrals.

Services

Home Energy Savings Program

The Home Energy Savings Program (HESP), a program of Xcel Energy provided by Sustainable Resources Center, provides these items to income-qualified households that are Xcel Energy customers:

  • free appliance replacements for outdated refrigerators, freezers and wall/window air conditioner units
  • a free dehumidifier
  • free LED light bulbs
  • a free smart power strip
  • free recycling of all appliances replaced
Home Weatherization Assistance

Weatherization reinforces homes to protect them from the elements and help them use less energy. SRC's Energy Conservation Program provides home weatherization and other energy conservation services for low-income families and individuals to help save energy, lower home energy costs, and make your home warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer.

Lead Hazard Control Grant

Sustainable Resources Center (SRC) works with Hennepin County and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to enroll Hennepin County residents in Lead Hazard Control Grants that protect children and families from the dangers of lead paint. Through these grants, SRC works to both teach families about the dangers of lead and how to reduce the risk of lead poisoning by removing it from homes.

Health Education

Lead poisoning is 100% preventable and SRC works to spread that message by offering outreach and health education at schools, classes and community events.

Sustainability

SRC tracks tailpipe greenhouse gas emissions through work-related travel mileage. Fortunately, the routine work we do makes this simple to calculate and our annual totals remain low. However, local travel is essential to SRC’s work and mission, so we are choosing to contribute to a carbon project to offset our current impact while keeping reducing emissions our long-term priority.
