Project Lifesaver
Project Lifesaver puts technology and training in the hands of public safety to expedite recovering citizens who suffer from cognitive issues or that are prone to wandering. Beltrami County’s Project Lifesaver was launched in 2015 and has had several successful reunifications. The nationwide program has had over 4,200 successful rescues and that number continues to rise. For more information on Beltrami County’s Project Lifesaver or for a consultation please contact the non-emergency number at 218-333-9111.
Project Lifesaver is supported by donations from the community and equips the Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office with the necessary transmitting bracelets and maintenance of the equipment. The program is designed to help caregivers that are caring for loved ones that tend to wander.

K-9 Program
The Beltrami County Sheriff’s K-9 unit was established to augment the Sheriff’s services to the community. Highly skilled and trained teams of handlers and Sheriff’s canines have evolved from the program and are used to supplement Sheriff’s Office operations to locate and apprehend criminal offenders.
K-9’s have a rigorous training regimen to be prepared for their duties. They are also required to annually re-certify with a nationally recognized training and certification organization. Our K-9 Teams serve its citizens at a very low cost to the taxpayers. All current and past funds used to obtain, train and maintain the K-9 teams were acquired through private donations and grants.
Boat and Water/Recreation
Beltrami County is home to hundreds of lakes, many rivers and miles of snowmobile and recreational trails. In order to keep the public safe, we utilize a number of all-terrain vehicles, snowmobiles and boats. Not only are these used for patrol and enforcement, they're also used during search and rescue operations. The Boat and Water/Recreation Division is comprised of a supervising sergeant and two deputies.
The Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office is committed to providing a safe environment for citizens spending time in the great outdoors.
SWAT
Beltrami County is part of the Headwaters Special Weapons and Tactics Team (S.W.A.T.) that provides highly trained and motivated personnel to be used in those instances where specialized skills are required to manage situations where regular patrol officer resources would not be sufficient to resolve a situation. The safety and preservation of all human life is S.W.A.T.’s primary objective. The Team accomplishes this objective by acting as a support unit which is specially trained and equipped to resolve critical high risk situations. Containment of suspects and negotiation procedures are the Team’s first responsibilities. The team consists of members from several divisions within the Sheriff's Office.
