Statewide Health Improvement Partnership (SHIP)

SHIP supports community-driven solutions to expand opportunities for active living, healthy eating and commercial tobacco-free living. SHIP in Northeast Minnesota is known also as Healthy Northland, a collaborative of seven counties working on SHIP strategies. The main funding for SHIP comes from the Minnesota Department of Health. Within Carlton County, the local coordinators coordinate implementation of SHIP through strategies in Worksite Wellness, Safe Routes to School, Community Active Living, Community Healthy Food Options, Breastfeeding Support, and Community Wellbeing.

SHIP helps local schools, businesses, organizations, etc. to make changes at the policy and systems level with the goal of increased population health, and a decrease in overall healthcare costs. SHIP Coordinators help partners make “the healthy choice the easy choice” for their employees, students, etc.

More information about local and regional efforts and events can be found at Healthy Northland’s website: www.healthynorthland.org. If interested in getting involved, contact one of the Carlton County SHIP Coordinators:
