The DOC Boys Program, provided by North Homes Children and Family Services, is a specialized program designed to support boys who are involved with the Department of Corrections (DOC) or who may be at risk of involvement in the juvenile justice system. The program aims to provide these boys with a supportive and structured environment where they can develop the necessary skills, make positive changes, and successfully reintegrate into their communities.

In the DOC Boys Program, the boys receive a range of services and support to address their unique needs. These services can include individualized counseling, group therapy, case management, skill-building activities, educational support, vocational training, and community integration opportunities. The program focuses on areas such as anger management, conflict resolution, communication skills, decision-making, pro-social behavior, and building a positive support network.

Boys Program
Age Group 10-16 - Grand Rapids, MN

Certifications: QRTP (Qualified Residential Treatment Program)

North Homes added the Boys Program to its continuum in the fall of 2009. The Boys Program provides programming for up to six adolescent boys in a group residential setting licensed by the Minnesota Department of Corrections.

Programming provides for a treatment-based philosophy that is complimented by a correctional component based on each youth’s individual needs. Comprehensive programming focuses on skill development, mental health and counseling services, culture, transitional services, and more. Boys attend school, have on-site health screenings and interventions, and have access to other services as needed.

 

Teens In Transition
Grand Rapids, MN
Age Group: 16-21

Certifications: QRTP (Qualified Residential Treatment Program)

Teens in Transition (TNT) is the oldest program at North Homes. TNT is a specialized group home with a primary focus on the skills needed to live independently. The program is a placement option for adolescent boys needing to develop independent living skills along with educational programming.

This program fills a gap in services for adolescents who will not be returning home at the end of placement or for other reasons needing to live independently. At the completion of the program residents will have gained the skills necessary for a successful transition into successful independent living.

Comprehensive programming focuses on skill development, mental health and counseling services, culture, transitional services, and more. Boys attend school, have on-site health screenings and interventions, and have access to other services as needed.

 
Next Step - Teen in Transition Program to Independent Living
Adolescent Boys - Age Group: 16-21

Certifications: QRTP (Qualified Residential Treatment Program)

Next Step is a community-based program that acts as a bridge between the Teens in Transition program and independent living. Adolescent boys involved in Next Step work on obtaining and maintaining employment, budgeting and financial management, and securing housing. Youth develop independent living skills, and may also be completing school or post-secondary educational programming.

Next Step fills a gap in services for teens who will not be returning home at the end of placement or for other reasons are needing to live independently. In an apartment-like home setting, this program provides 24-hour awake staff to support and develop the skills needed to live independently. Preferred completion of the Teens in Transition (TNT) program, but not required.


This gender-specific programming for boys in the Grand Rapids area is in partnership with Department of Corrections. Youth in this program are referred by a county worker, probation officer, or court order.
