Site: Camp Hiawatha
Ages: Unspecified
Cost: $160 - 190*

Rendezvous is a fun, Christ-centered camp experience for campers with intellectual developmental disabilities. It is three days packed with everything camp has to offer - games, swimming, worship, campfire, Bible study, creative arts, and the chance to make new friends with our staff and fellow campers!

Participants who need significant assistance with basic daily tasks need to have a caregiver attend with them ($50/ accompanying caregiver). Contact the camp with questions - (800) 331-5148.

Program Details

Voyageurs Lutheran Ministry staff will lead participants through each day's activities, working to provide an appropriate, fun, and memorable experience. The camp also has a health care person available 24-hours a day, kitchen staff who prepare great meals, and certified lifeguards on the waterfront.

Rendezvous campers are housed in cabins with 1-3 other campers and a trained staff member. The cabin/dorm rooms at Camp Hiawatha have bunk beds as well as their own sink, shower, and toilet. Lower bunks are generally used for this program.

Registration for Rendezvous will take place on Sunday afternoon between 3-3:30. This shortened time frame allows us to jump into the fun as soon as possible! Pick-up on Tuesday will be at 4:00 PM. This later pick-up will allow us to have almost another full day of camp activities before saying goodbye to our participants.

In addition to packing in as much fun and learning as we can into three days, Rendezvous participants also get to have a hot dog roast during their stay. This typically happens at one of the suppers during their stay, but could also be a lunch meal. Program participants, counselors, and perhaps a few additional support staff, enjoy roasting their own hot dogs over the fire. This meal also includes chips, fruit, and s'mores. In case of rain, we do have an indoor fireplace for this fun activity.

Going to the canteen, or camp store is often a highlight for many of our campers. A visit to the canteen for a snack is built into the cost of the Rendezvous program so campers do not need money for snacks. However, they are able to purchase shirts, hats, or other souvenirs if they would like. We often try to do tie-dye with Rendezvous campers and shirts or pillowcases are available in the camp store as well.
